Data Analysis and Writing in Qualitative Research

On June 29, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM, the “Data Analysis and Writing in Qualitative Research” training will be held at Scientific Studies Association presented by Merve Akkuş Güvendi and Elyesa Koytak. This training is specifically designed for graduate students, aiming to enhance participants’ skills in organizing, analyzing qualitative research data, and forming an analytical framework. Additionally, it seeks to improve their competencies in interpreting and writing research findings post-analysis. Third and fourth-year undergraduate students, graduate students, and researchers who have graduated but continue their academic research outside of academia may apply. Participants are expected to possess basic knowledge of research and a research plan, even if they have not previously conducted qualitative research. The program consists of two separate sessions and will be held in person at the Scientific Studies Association Library Building.

Session 1: “Data Analysis in Qualitative Research (Citavi Applied)”

In the first session, scheduled from 10:00 to 11:30 AM on June 29, 2024, Merve Akkuş Güvendi will provide an applied demonstration of coding, categorizing, and thematizing processes through the Citavi program, essential stages in the data analysis process. This training aims to enhance participants’ systematic data analysis skills and help them derive meaningful conclusions from collected data. Through Citavi, participants will experience the processes of coding, categorizing data, identifying main themes, interpreting quotations, and organizing content prior to writing.

Organizing field data
Coding process, creating categories, and themes
Associating quotations and establishing context
Organizing before writing
Session 2: “Writing and Interpreting in Qualitative Research”

The second session, held from 12:00 to 1:30 PM the same day, will be led by Elyesa Koytak, focusing on methods for interpreting and documenting qualitative research data in a legitimate, consistent, and coherent manner. Participants will learn how to organize, group, map, and prepare data for interpretation following qualitative research. They will also gain experience in planning for reporting, drafting an introduction, associating findings, providing examples, structuring arguments, and concluding.

Understanding data accurately in qualitative research
Grouping qualitative data and forming arguments
Style and format in qualitative analysis
Essentials for coherent, convincing, and consistent writing in qualitative analysis
Participation Requirements and Notes:

The participation fee is 200 TL.
Third and fourth-year undergraduate students, graduate students, and researchers who have graduated but continue their academic research outside academia may apply.
The training will be conducted in person at Scientific Studies Association
The application deadline is June 23, 2024. As the number of seats is limited, applicants should complete the application form if interested in participating.
