History and Historiography in Civilization Basins II: Egypt Basin Workshop

Humanity has established various civilizations in many basins from Hijaz to Bilad al-Sham, from Iraq al-Ajam to Khorasan, from Maghreb to Andalusia, from Sindh to Hind, from Maveraünnehir to Turkistan, from Anatolia to Rumelia. Many dynasties that ruled over these basins contributed to the historiography of themselves, the basin, and humanity. Although these sources are known by researchers working on the period, they are not known in a holistic manner by scholars who want to study these basins, especially young historians and researchers.

With this workshop series, it is aimed to introduce the historical sources written in the main civilization basins with their technical features and to show the historical sources accumulated in the basin from the past to the present in a holistic manner. In this respect, we will discuss the Egyptian basin in the second of the workshop series, the first of which we started with the Iranian basin. Then, the series is planned to be continued as Balkans, Maveraunnehir, Maghrib, Andalusia, Sind&India, and Anatolia. In this way, the historical memory of Islamic civilization basins will be unearthed.

With this workshop, all historical memory written in the Islamic period dynasties or states (Tolunids, Ikhshidids, Fatimids, Ayyubids, Mamluks, Ottomans and Modern Egypt) that ruled in the Egyptian basin will be unearthed, and historical sources will be discussed in terms of technical principles such as sections, content and distinctive features. In this way, historical sources on the Egyptian basin will be presented in a holistic manner.
