History and Historiography in Civilizational Basins V: Maghreb Basin

Humanity has traveled from Hejaz to Bilad-ı Sham, from Iraq to Khorasan, from Maghreb to Andalusia, from Sindh to Hind, from Transoxiana to Turkestan, from Anatolia to Rumelia. Various civilizations have established on the basin throughout history. Many dynasties that ruled over these basins made important contributions in different aspects to the writing of their own, the basin's and human history. Although the resources emerged within the framework of these efforts are known by researchers working on the period, they are not known in a holistic and comprehensive way by scholars who want to study these basins, especially by young historians and researchers who are new to the field. Taking these concerns into consideration, the History and Historiography in Civilization Basins Project focuses on historians, historical sources and historiography.

 

The focus and target of the workshop are the following three issues: Firstly, discussing the position of the historical sources written in the Maghreb Basin for their period and beyond, introducing them with their methodological features, and presenting the historical sources accumulated in the basin from past to present and the historians who revealed them in their entirety. It is aimed to be evaluated. In this way, it is aimed to bring to light the historical memory especially in the Maghreb Basin. Secondly, it aims to reveal what kind of processes historiography in the Maghreb Basin was shaped through. Thirdly, it is aimed to comprehend the developments, deepening, transformations, expansions or differentiations in the science of history in the contemporary period in the Maghreb Basin, and to examine in depth the historiography and the future of history in the light of modern changes and developments by focusing on the meaning of history.

In the first session of the workshop, which will be held in three sessions, early Maghreb historiography will be discussed. In this session, Ahmet İğdi “Ibâzî Historians in North Africa (IX-XVI. Centuries)”, Zehra Gözütok Tamdoğan “Historical Sources of the Merînis Period (1196-1465) and its Contribution to Maghreb Historiography” and Esra Keskin “The Resources of Hafsî State (1228-1574) Period” Their paper titled They will present.

In the second session, İsa Gökgedik "Abdülvadîs Period (1235-1550) Historical Sources and Historiography", Hakan Temir "Sa'dids Period (1511-1659) Historical Sources and Historiography" and Ahmet Gedik "Occupation Period (1830-1962) Historical Sources and Historiography" He presented his papers titled "" and discussed the developmental period of Maghreb historiography. In the third session, Halil Kaya's "Moroccan Historical Sources and Historiography of the Occupation Period (1912-1956)" and Abdullah Erdem Taş's "19. With the papers titled "Libyan Historiography from the 19th Century to the Present: Historians and Their Works" and Abdülkadir Macit's "Maghrib Heritage in Historiography: A Comprehensive Analysis", the subject of Maghreb historiography during the occupation period will be discussed and the history and historiography of the Maghreb Basin will be discussed with a holistic approach.
