With the Islamic Political Thought Project, ILEM aims to contribute to the continuity between the modern and classical periods of Islamic political thought. The main objectives of the project are to revisit the issues of Islam discussed in the pre-modern period and to bring up and interpret the concepts of the period in a way to ensure continuity.
Within the scope of the project, the Islamic Political Thought Workshop examined the possibilities of addressing Islamic political thought, and consultations were held to resolve methodological problems in Islamic political thought. The papers presented after the workshop were published in September 2018 under the title Islamic Political Thought - Just State, Virtuous City, Responsible Human, edited by Lutfi Sunar and Özgür Kavak.
As the other component of the project, it aims to make the heritage of Islamic political culture available for academic studies through copyright and translation. Under the direction of Hızır Murat Köse and Özgür Kavak, the catalog work prepared by İbrahim Halil Ayten cataloged nearly 1000 manuscripts in Arabic, Turkish, and Persian that emerged within the scope of Islamic political thought between the 7th and 20th centuries A.D. and are available in Turkish libraries in manuscript or in electronic form. These studies will bring important insights to the efforts to understand Islamic political thought.
At the Islamic Political Thought Catalog Project and Islamic Political Thought Book Launch Meeting, discussions will be held around the two components of the project. Lütfi Sunar, Özgür Kavak, and Hızır Murat Köse will be among the speakers of the panel moderated by Süleyman Güder, Chairman of ILEM. The panel will discuss the importance of the project and the contributions of the catalog and the book to the literature.
