The 202nd event of Graduate Presentations will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 18:00 at İLEM. The event, which will be moderated by Yasin Ramazan Başaran and presented by Şeyma Kömürcüoğlu, aims to reveal the way the idea of resemblance to God is handled in medieval philosophy and its conceptual connections under the title "Quis ut Deus: God as a Model in Medieval Philosophy".
Based on Şeyma Kömürcüoğlu's book titled "Quis ut Deus: God as a Model in Medieval Philosophy", which received the 2023 TÜBA-TESEP Social Sciences award, we examine how a theological and even theosophical issue such as resemblance to God can be discussed, as we move from primitive religions to ancient philosophy and from there back to heavenly religions. It will be tried to show how the idea of resemblance to God transforms along with societies' changing conceptions of God from time to time. Quis ut Deus at its most basic? This study, which seeks an answer to the question (Who is like God?), on the one hand, investigates how the area considered divine and inaccessible was rationalized and humanized, and on the other hand, tries to shed light on the history of how the human became divine.
The question-answer-oriented program will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 18:00, on the 1st Floor of the İLEM Library Building. Everyone who is interested in the program is invited.
