Ahmet Cevdet Pasha was a legal scholar, more than just an expert in Islamic jurisprudence. He significantly contributed to the development of legal science in the country. He converted existing legal provisions into law, promoted the legislative process, implemented legal codes, provided a scholarly direction to historical studies, simplified the language by mastering and controlling it, resolved the noisy issue of printing the Quran in the country, and initiated the first scholarly struggle against the incorrect calendar system used by the treasury. He was a distinguished Turkish scholar and a highly esteemed statesman and politician during his time, especially noted for his exceptional management of the affairs of the state and the complex matters of the people. His memory from the Tanzimat period remains one of the few prominent figures always remembered with gratitude and goodwill.
