(Reflecting Today onto the Past: In Search of a New Interpretation of Islam in the Turkish History Thesis (1932-1937))

The fragmented understanding of history in the Republican ideology has brought forth many problems and paradoxes. The Turkish Historical Thesis, the Sun Language Theory, and the history textbooks written in the 1930s serve as examples in this regard. The emergence of elements such as the Turkish Quran, Turkish worship, Turkish Islam, and the Turkish call to prayer is particularly noteworthy. The inclusion of elements of Islamic thought and the emphasis on having competent individuals write texts in this field during the preparation process of the Turkish Historical Thesis are part of these policies and ideological pursuits. Therefore, in this study, the subject is examined and analyzed in detail based on texts that are often unknown or not approached within this framework.
