This book, consisting of 9 articles, aims to shed light on the process and functions of the caliphate in the pre-modern era, as well as the debates surrounding it. It also seeks to bring this issue back to the agenda and reinterpret the terms of the period in a way that ensures continuity, aiming to benefit from the accumulated knowledge of the past in identifying and assessing the contemporary issues related to the caliphate.
This work, which contains the proceedings of a workshop held on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the transfer of the caliphate to the Turks, is hoped to serve as a catalyst for many new and original researches and contribute to the correct commemoration and understanding of this great historical legacy.
