Ethics has been discussed in a wide range of fields within Islamic thought, from practical philosophy to various religious sciences. In this respect, ethics is accepted as one of the philosophical sciences, but it is also discussed in different aspects in religious sciences such as hadith, kalām, fiqh, and mysticism. Morality, which is at the intersection of multiple disciplines, needs to be examined in terms of the internal dynamics of these sciences in order to examine and reveal all its dimensions. Such an endeavor seems essential for the understanding of ethics in Islamic thought in all its dimensions.

In response to this need, within the scope of the Islamic Ethics Project conducted by the Scientific Studies Association (ILEM) and Foundation for Science Culture and Education (ILKE), roundtable meetings titled Basic Characteristics of Islamic Ethical Literature were held between March 2013 and March 2014, and the literature on ethics was discussed in the context of its own characteristics. This book consists of the articles of the presentations made at these meetings.
