The Atlas of Islamic Thought is a project initiated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Halil Üçer, prepared with the support of the Cultural Department Presidency of Konya Metropolitan Municipality (Konya Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kültür Daire Başkanlığı) at the Scientific Studies Association (İlmi Etüdler Derneği - İLEM). It is a historical writing project on Islamic thought that has been created with the collaboration of leading researchers in the field of Islamic thought history, design experts, programmers, and map engineers.
The scope of the project proposes an uninterrupted, dynamic, and comprehensive writing of the history of Islamic thought from its beginnings to the present day. This proposal includes a new periodization and comprehensive articles that examine the development and transformations of scientific disciplines in Islamic thought history for each period, grounded in knowledge, cities, institutions, and architectural works. The project includes extensive maps, graphics, and videos, and it has resulted in an open-access website with interactive programs (www.islamdusunceatlasi.org) and a six-volume book titled "Atlas of Islamic Thought."
Thus, along with its unique outputs from its inception to the present day, the Atlas of Islamic Thought (IDA) gains the identity of a sort of history of Islamic sciences, based on the new perspective it brings to the historiography of Islamic thought.
In the second edition of the project, which was accompanied by academics, researchers, design experts, programmers, and map engineers:
The previously published three-volume Atlas of Islamic Thought has been updated and expanded to six volumes.
The entries from the previous version have been significantly updated, with nearly 1000 new scientific articles added.
The project has included the tradition of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), and in addition to articles describing the development of fiqh from its inception to the present day, over 200 new entries related to fiqh, institutions that emerged around the fiqh tradition, maps illustrating the development of fiqh, book networks visualizing fiqh literature, and knowledge networks visualizing relationships between jurists have been added.
Eighty articles have been written on the transformation of scientific disciplines in Islamic thought history from its beginnings to the present day.
A comprehensive interaction network has been created in the network project aimed at revealing the interaction networks of scholars throughout history, involving 4,000 scientists.
A network of books has been established, covering philosophy, mathematical sciences, logic, theology, jurisprudence, and Sufism, based on over 6,000 works. Independent scientific articles have been written about the founding classics."
