Theories of Love in Islamic Thought
This work, which attempts an etymological analysis of the concept of love (el-mehabbe), aims to shed light on the metaphysical, physical, ethical, and political dimensions of the concept of love in Islamic thought.
The study explores the nature of the distinction between Allah's love and the love of the created beings, and presents the problems that Islamic thinkers have debated around the concept of love. This allows for a comparison to be made based on what Islamic philosophers, theologians, and Sufis have written about love.
Drawing upon texts written in the context of Islamic thought, this work presents an analysis of the concept of love, informing readers that love is an indispensable quality for individuals to attain moral excellence and for the establishment of perfect social cohesion.
