The period between 1960 and 1980 is a time that is widely discussed but about which little information is known in Turkey. This work aims to narrate the story of this critical period through visuals.
In the 1960s, like other ideological movements, Islamism also became more visible and gained an assertive language. In this regard, the 1960s encompass various beginnings that are crucial for understanding Turkish political and intellectual life and their subsequent developments. This book examines the emergence of new public manifestations of Islam in Turkey from the 1960s onwards. In pursuit of this objective, the book is woven around selected visuals from magazines.
Titled "Islam in the Process of Becoming Public," this work tells the story of the resurgence of what was suppressed. As the pages of the book unfold, we witness Islam gradually gaining visibility in public life. Each page presents the manifestation of a different aspect, awaiting the reader's exploration. By approaching the subject through visuals, this study offers a new perspective on the understanding of Turkey's intellectual history.
