The historiography in 19th century Egypt is examined through the works of Abdurrahman al-Jabarti, Abdullah al-Sharqawi, Ismail al-Hashash, Ahmed al-Rajabi, Nikola al-Turk, and their works. This work, which holds the distinction of being the first in Turkish literature, discusses not only the primary Arabic sources but also relevant research in English and partially in French literature. The work is particularly important for enabling a comparison of late Ottoman historiography. In this regard, it presents significant examples from the field in terms of historiography, historical thought, and methodology. The book covers topics such as the Mamluks, the Wahhabis, the scholars of Al-Azhar, Egyptian society, propaganda leaflets distributed to the public during the French occupation, and the prominent figure of Muhammad Ali Pasha of the Khedivate of Egypt.
