The relationship between politics and religion in the Middle East is undoubtedly one of the crucial aspects for understanding and interpreting the region, particularly in the aftermath of the 2011 Arab uprisings. The significance of this topic continues to grow over time. As academics in Turkey, we have endeavored to delve into the developments in the region and uncover the underlying factors.
Under the project titled "Islamic Political Thought Project (ILEM): Politics and Religion in the Middle East," we organized a series of seminars under the theme of "Politics and Religion in the Middle East." Our aim was to comprehend the dynamics of the politics-religion relationship in the region through different religious and political perspectives. In 2017, we worked towards producing a comprehensive and representative work by addressing a wide range of issues, from the origins of the two influential ideological streams in the region, Shia and Sunni political thought, to their contemporary political implications.
