Osmanlı Kitap Kültürü

"Osmanlı Kitap Kültürü: Cârullah Efendi Kütüphanesi ve Derkenar Notları" contributes significantly to the increasing interest in collection studies in recent years by focusing on the manuscript dimension of Ottoman book culture. In the book, the marginal notes found in the manuscripts from the Cârullah Efendi Collection are analyzed, and attempts are made to provide answers to questions regarding various aspects of book culture, such as books, libraries, collections, collectors, authors, and readers.

This study contains several pioneering aspects. Firstly, it is the first time that an entire collection has been subject to examination in the field of book culture and manuscript book culture studies. Secondly, it demonstrates that marginal notes can provide valuable data in the studies of book culture, emphasizing that the concept of "scrap" knowledge should not be disregarded. Undoubtedly, the most significant contribution of the book lies in its comprehensive introduction of Cârullah Efendi, a highly esteemed scholar, teacher, judge, librarian, and bibliophile, who was previously known by very limited information, to the academic world.
