Türkiye’de Yayıncılığın Hafızası

The publishing world is not only a realm of cultural and social carriers but also an economic cycle and intellectual phase. Although publishing is a field in Turkey that is pondered upon and discussed from various perspectives, there is not much research on the influence of publishing activities on intellectual processes. The Memory of Publishing in Turkey Project (TYH), initiated by the Association for Academic Studies (İLEM) in 2019, conducted oral history interviews with prominent figures who have been part of the publishing networks in Turkey. The contributions of publishers, editors, and translators who established intellectual grounds through publishing, particularly after the 1970s, were examined through their own narratives. This book, which you have in your hands, contains oral history interviews conducted with 22 individuals as part of the project. It offers unique insights into the journey of publishing in Turkey, its transformations, and ruptures. These narratives may not radically change what we know; instead, they can confirm our preconceptions in the examination of the period, provide a new perspective, or indicate an unspoken point behind what is always said. The goal of this book is not to validate the information and facts in printed sources but to enable approaching the examined period through different paths.
