Human & Society 2nd Issue

The second issue of the journal Human and Society, whose first issue was published in June 2011, has been published. Human and Society, which deals with the problems of human and society in an interrelated manner without being confined to disciplinary boundaries, includes important studies in the fields of social, human and religious sciences in its second issue. In this issue of the journal, which adopts the principle of publishing original and critical studies, Osman Demir's article titled "Dr. Abdullah Cevdet'te Din Perception" deals with the perception of religion by Abdullah Cevdet, who lived at a time when Western movements began to spread rapidly in the Ottoman geography. In his article, Demir shows that Abdullah Cevdet, who significantly influenced the religious policies of the Republican period and the religious understanding of the society with his works, adopted a style of questioning that caused serious hesitations and destructive effects on religious issues and concepts. Lütfi Sunar's "Orientalist Sources of Classical Sociology: A Comparative Study of Marx and Weber", Lütfi Sunar argues that despite their many epistemological and political differences, Marx and Weber share a common interest in using Eastern societies to explain modern society, and in doing so, in using Orientalist sources without questioning them.

Yalçın Çetinkaya's "The Philosophy of Music in Mevlevism: Love, Music, Ney in Mesnevî" by Yalçın Çetinkaya discusses the place of semân and ney in Mevlevism and examines the philosophy of music that develops around love. Zeynep Yıldız, on the other hand, in her study titled "The Concept of Music in the 14th Century: Hasan Kâşânî's "Kenzü't Tuhaf"" discusses the understanding of music, theory and instruments of the period through the Persian music treatise titled Kenzü't Tuhaf written by Hasan Kâşânî in the 14th century. Gökhan Umut, in his article titled "Growth and Employment in the Turkish Economy after 2001: The Dynamics of Unemployment in Turkey", argues that contrary to what some economic theories inspire, there is no clear relationship between unemployment and growth in the mentioned period. Halil Aldemir, on the other hand, in his article titled "Mubāhala as a Method of Resolving Disputes", after discussing the dictionary meanings of the words "dispute" and "mubāhala", which are the basic concepts of the subject, their terminological meanings and their usage in the Qur'an, the first call for mubāhala is discussed together with its historical context.

With the title "Muhammad Asad between Religion and Politics", Talal Asad contributes to this issue of Human and Society with his review article.

In addition to original articles and reviews, the pages of İnsan ve Toplum also include a large number of book reviews in order to establish a culture of criticism, which is the first condition for academic sharing and development. The aim is to create an academic neighborhood that develops by taking each other into consideration, especially with the reviews of works published in Turkey.
