Human & Society Issue 6

Journal of Human and Society, published by the Association for Scientific Studies, met its readers with a special issue on "Eurocentric Historiography". Journal of Human and Society, which has an important place in the field of social sciences in Turkey, is included in indexes such as EBSCO, Index Islamicus, CSA Sociological Index, IBSS, DOAJ and Ulrichs.

In the sixth issue of the journal devoted to Eurocentric Historiography, the reflections of Eurocentrism manifested in the understanding of history on problematic areas such as universalism, multiculturalist discourse, international politics, the writing of history textbooks, Turkish modernization and periodizations in world history are discussed. In this issue of the journal, original scholarly approaches to the controversial issues in criticizing and overcoming the Western-centered understanding of history stand out.

Although it is becoming increasingly difficult to criticize Eurocentrism and question its legitimacy, this special issue of Human and Society shows that the issue is still important. This is because Eurocentrism has infected all fields as a diseased view. In almost every field from law to political science, from art to geography, from philosophy to sociology, from literature to history, those who have been subjected to the obscuration of the claim of universality of the Eurocentric perspective produce comprehensive criticisms. The transformation of these critiques into non-Eurocentric alternative perspectives is among the important issues that the articles in the journal focus on.

The fact that the meaning, position, production and reproduction of Eurocentrism in historiography is a subject worthy of in-depth discussion is once again demonstrated by the number and quality of the articles in this special issue of the Journal of Human and Society.

Thirteen articles, two reviews and eight book reviews in this special issue of the journal discuss the subject in depth from different perspectives. However, one of the common conclusions reached in the articles is that the Eurocentric perspective in historiography should not only be criticized but also overcome.
The special issue of the Journal of Human and Society on "Eurocentric Historiography" will remain a reference work for years to come.
