Human & Society Issue 7

The 7th issue of the Journal of Human and Society, published by the Association for Scientific Studies, was published with the file "City". Having an important place in the field of social sciences in Turkey, İnsan ve Toplum is included in indexes such as EBSCO, Index Islamicus, CSA Sociological Index, IBSS, DOAJ, Ulrichs, ULAKBIM.

In the 7th issue of İnsan ve Toplum, the reflections of society and politics on issues such as urbanism, change and transformation of cities in the historical process are discussed.

The phenomenon of urbanization, which is based on the modernity project, causes cities to be scrutinized. This situation, which attracts the attention of different disciplines within the social sciences, brings the academy face to face with a problem area in which the city and the literary world related to it are giantized in a blurred medium. On the other hand, the destructiveness of the rationalities, which are considered technical about the growth and development of cities and which reconstruct all images, encompasses the field of knowledge of urbanism much faster than the social sciences. This file of Human and Society reveals the reflections of this problem area on academia.

The file, which includes the research of the Turgut Cansever Workshop organized at İLEM, is expected to contribute to the world of science with articles from different disciplines and numerous book reviews in addition to articles written in the context of urbanism.

The article "Turgut Cansever'de Şehircilik ve Planlama Düşüncesi (The Idea of Urbanism and Planning in Turgut Cansever)" was written by Muhammed Esad Tiryaki from Uludağ University Faculty of Architecture. In the article, Turgut Cansever's thoughts on urbanism and planning are discussed together with three concepts: preservation, neighborhood and economic activity. Murat Şentürk, a faculty member at Istanbul University Department of Sociology, discusses Turgut Cansever's approach to the city and its change in his article titled "The Change of the City in Turgut Cansever's Thought". Şentürk also includes Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's views on change and evaluates the similarities and differences with Cansever.

Another article in the City file of the Journal of Human and Society is by Yunus Çolak. Çolak, who works at Kırklareli University Faculty of Architecture, writes "Fair City Approach and Urban Transformation: The Case of Istanbul Esenler", he evaluates the fair city approach, one of the new institutional perspectives in planning, and the urban transformation process.

Özcan Şabudak, on the other hand, in his article "An Example of Urban Change in the Historical Process. Gedikpaşa", tries to show how some districts, which have more advantages compared to certain parts of the historical peninsula, have turned these advantages into disadvantages over time, how proximity to the administrative and economic center of the city is not always an advantage and that geographical location can be a burden: Gedikpaşa". In his article, Dr. Şabudak, who works at the Private Zografyon Greek High School, examines the negativities experienced by the neighborhood based on traditional production activities and social structure and offers some suggestions for their solution.

Another noteworthy article in the new issue of the journal is "Mythos in Claude Lévi-Strauss" by Ahmet Uğurlu, a faculty member at Abant İzzet Baysal University, Department of Philosophy and Religious Sciences. In his study, Uğurlu defines myths as sacred narratives that human beings use both to define their universal coming to life and to make sense of the existence of a community in a region. By referring to the modern structures used by Lévi-Strauss in understanding myths, he says that human ambiguity will be eliminated to a great extent.

In his article "Organization and Strategy: The Nationalist Movement Party between 1965-1980" presents a structural analysis of the Nationalist Movement Party and the nationalist organizations that formed around it between 1965-1980. He aims to reveal the strategic and ideological differences within and between the MHP and the youth organizations organized under the umbrella of the ülkü Ocakları.

In his English-language article "The Development of Missionary Literature in Turkish", Cemal Yetkiner of The City University of New York examines how the general Turkish literature approaches the phenomenon of "missionary activities in Turkey" from a methodological and thematic perspective. The author argues that the study of these works will help to understand the historical process of the intellectual approach to missionary activities in Turkey.

Another article, also written in English, titled "The Impact of Time on the Work of Art: A Hermeneutic Reading of Holocaust Films", also written in English, was written by Abdullah Başaran. Başaran, who holds a master's degree in Philosophy from Stony Brook University, focuses on the close relationship between the concepts of prejudice and historicity and the time period in which a Holocaust film director lives.
