Ruba Kasmo graduated from the faculty of Architectural Engineering at Aleppo University in 2001. She received her PhD in 2014 and M.Sc. in 2008 from the Department of Restoration at Istanbul Technical University and her Diploma of Higher Studies in 2003 from Department of History of Architecture at Aleppo University. Her research focuses on Syria and the Arab region in terms of conservation of built heritage, Islamic architecture, Ottoman architecture and the waqf system and its role in the architectural and urban development. Since 2002, she has participated in many research and conservation projects in University of Aleppo, Istanbul Technical University, AKTC (Agha Khan Trust of Culture), IRCICA (OIC Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture) and UNESCO. She is currently an assistant professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Waqf University in Istanbul.
