İLEM hosted the Turkey branch of the "Language Acts and Worldmaking" project, which is led by King's College.
The "Language Acts and Worldmaking" project is supported within the framework of the Open World Research Initiative (OWRI), a research program of the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Led by King's College London from the UK, with the participation of universities such as Harvard and Oxford, as well as nearly 20 organizations as project partners, the "Language Acts and Worldmaking" project had its Turkey branch carried out by ILEM. Over the course of four years from 2016 to 2020, various studies were conducted in areas ranging from theater and education to history, language and literature, linguistics, and sociology. As part of the project, ILEM conducted research on the circulation and appearance of the image of Al-Andalus in Turkey.
The project aimed to develop a new methodology in linguistics and generate interest in understanding different worlds, cultures, and languages among the public and researchers. It contributed to the experience of coexistence in the world and facilitated in-depth knowledge of modern languages through linguistic studies conducted on these languages.
